A small break from 15

Veterans Day (Nov. 2011)

I am going off on a tangent now.

You’re shocked I know! So unlike me. Whatever.

My pop was a navy man. He served during the Korean war. He would sometimes tell stories about being on the ship in a storm. I think his favorite one was getting his wisdom teeth taken out, on deck, during a battle and a storm. (He also walked 10 miles to school, in the snow, up hill both ways.)

Other than that he, didn’t talk much about his time in the service. I have since found out that he was also a navigator for several different pilots, including his older brother. Pop thought that the military was a good place to figure out who you are, if you’re male. Love you pop. Miss you much.

My ex husband is currently still in the Army. He is in one of the Army bands. I will admit that he is very good. He has the talent, but not the drive to be great. Where my pop may have been afraid to be in battle, he went. My ex is afraid to succeed so he never took the required ‘3.0 test’ that would have put him in the top band. Sad really. What a waste. Although considering what he and his current floozy has done to our kids… ‘Friendly fire’ would be less of a waste.

Ahem… Anywho…

My other ex was Navy. His dad was Air Force. Dad served during Korea/Vietnam. Ex served during Desert Storm. Dad is a brave, honorable man. Ex… well again, ‘Friendly fire’ (or a shiv in the shower), would be fine with me.

My darling husband was Navy. His father is retired Army. Served during both Korea and Vietnam. My hubby served during one of the infrequent bouts of peace.

Lee (from my list) served in the Marines. Also during Desert Storm.

Dixie (also from my list) was in the Navy. Also served during Desert Storm.

I have many other friends, family and past neighbors that have served or are serving. To all of them I would like to say, “Thank you for your service to our Country. You are not thanked often enough, nor are you honored enough for what you have sacrificed or have been willing to sacrifice. The pay is lousy, the risks are great and you do it all for the love of our country. May God keep you safe”.

And to all of the Military families: “Thank you for being the support behind our service people. It is a difficult and often lonely job, and though you may complain at times, we know how proud you are of your solider. may they all come back to you safe”.

Happy Veterans Day to one and all.

(Except my ex’s. seriously -“Friendly Fire” for for one and “shiv in the shower” for two…)
