Ok, so I missed a day. I was having fun and got back too late to write this.
So, how was the day?
We docked in San Francisco at about 9:30. It was supposed to be earlier, but there was ‘congestion in the harbor.’ Then, there were a few docking issues. All in all, this put the majority of tours behind 1-2 hours. But, not a problem for us. We had decided to spend the day on the ship. What we thought would be an uneventful time when my seasickness would abate.
It did.
But, the ship was not exactly steady.
There were swells and winds. Apparently bad enough that the ship shifted enough to pull a mooring off the dock. They had to turn on the thrusters so that we didn’t ‘drift into the mooring next door.’ A Princess liner.
To be clear- a steel mooring that was cemented into the cement dock was pulled loose due to wind.
To be clear, the boat was unmoored due to wind. In dock. Although there were still other moors it was attached to, just not in the front of the ship to at least halfway back.
And it messed with the gangplank, as in we lost it.
It took them 3 hours to get it back in place. Then, a couple of hours later, they moved it up a deck.
The Captain, who has a particularly yummy accent- kept us updated. He sounded frustrated. I really couldn’t blame him. It is, after all, his responsibility to make sure the tourists are happy and on board when they expect to be.
So, we still experienced some rocking back and forth, up and down, and had an exciting, will we, or won’t we, have a gangplank today.
But, I guess all’s well that ends well!
